Are you using the right PPE for your industry?
There are a number of different industries that use PPE to conduct their work safely and efficiently. From mining, which is more commonly known, to hospitality. In this post, we will discuss a few common types of PPE along with the industries they are applied too.
D59 FLAME SUIT
In order to withstand exceptionally high temperatures, the cotton suit has a flame-retardant finish. It also has 50 mm silver double-needle topstitched reflective tapes on the arms and legs for increased visibility. This suit protects in the event of a flash fire and is designed with a YKK concealed brass zip on both the jacket and the pants, as well as elasticated cuff and slits for comfort.
Industries the D59 flame suit is worn:
- Engineering
- Oil and gas and
- Maintenance and repairs
D59 FLAME & ACID SUIT
In the same way that the D59 Flame suit has a cotton satin finish and is able to protect its wearer from fire, the D59 flame and acid suit also offers protection from acid spills. The fabric is durable, heavy-duty and has the SABS permit marking.
Industries the D59 flame & acid suit is approved for:
- Petrochemical
- Agricultural
- Engineering
- Utility power generation
- Mining
D59 THERMAL JACKET
The D59 thermal jacket has stylish nickel press-studs throughout and 50mm silver reflective tape on the arms. Each cu has an adjustable size flap and double needle topstitched on shoulders & armholes.
Industries the D59 thermal jacket is worn:
- Petrochemical
- Utilities and power generators and Maintenance and repairs including installation.
WELDING JACKET
Welding jackets need to be flame resistant — this should go without saying. Usually made from leather, cotton, carbon fibre, denim, or rubber, aramid and rayon is a popular combination to find it in. The seams of a welding jacket need to be just as durable as they are fire-proof.
The Dromax welding jacket is able to protect workers in:
- Steel mills
- Shipyards
- Manufacturing
- Engineering
- Automotive and
- Torch work industries
ARC FLASH TREAD SAFETY BOOT
This safety boot is water-resistant, heat-resistant, and waterproof with a full-grain cow leather upper. It’s out-sole is slip-resistant and has what is called SRC which stands for slip resistance on ceramic floors. The in-sock is removable while the heel is energy-absorbing.
Industries where the Arc flash tread safety boot can be worn:
- Manufacturing (incl. computer equipment)
- Mining
DURAM KIMI ESCAPE MASK
Used for self-rescue during emergency situations involving uncontrolled gas leaks for as long as 15 min and chemical spills; this simple respirator is powerful in ensuring its wearers lungs aren’t harmed. It is for this reason that you could find this mask used by:
- Chemical and petrochemical industries
- Railway companies
- The transportation of hazardous materials
- Police, military, and private security
D59 WELDERS HOOD
The D59 welders hood protects its wearer due to its durable fabric construction. For comfort, it’s designed from natural breathable fibres. The hood resists the effect of flame contact and acid corrosion because of its flame and acid technology making it also perfect in:
- Utility/electrical work
- Petrochemical and chemical work
ARAMID BALACLAVA
Designed with flame retardant thread throughout and inherent knitted fabric, the Aramid balaclava is both lightweight and breathable. With the option of either single or double.
FIRE & CHEMICAL BOOTS
Firefighters need to be light on their feet, visible under adverse smoky conditions and of course protected. Fire and chemical boots are lightweight enough for firefighters to get to where they need too quickly, or suitable protection against chemicals and have reflective strips and trim that can be seen as far as 250 m away.
They can be used for:
- Search and rescue
- Aircraft fires
- Petrochemical fires
- Structural and wildland firefighting
FIBREGLASS FIRE BLANKET
Designed with the purpose of extinguishing small fires, the Dromex ® FBSIL offers a silicone-coated fiberglass that’s lightweight and heat resistant. By smothering the small fire, it effectively starves it of oxygen. It also has the ability to keep metal splatters contained making it ideal in laboratories as well as industrial areas.
You can also find it in:
- Catering establishments and restaurants
- Training centres
- Hospitals and nursing facilities
- Garage and workshops
- Ships and galleys
MOLTEN WARRIOR GLOVES
Molten warrior gloves are made from leather palm and aluminium back lined with Kevlar. Being able to withstand heat as high as 500 degrees Celsius, they protect against molten metal sparks and splash. With its high resistance to abrasion, tear & cut, they make for exceptional gloves to have in oily conditions.
You can use molten warrior gloves in:
- Welding
- Engineering
- Furnaces
- Mechanical i.e., automotive
WILDLAND GOGGLES
Windland goggles are easy to wear, fire-resistant, lightweight, non-vented, anti-scratch, anti-fog lens.
Designed for compatibility with other PPE they are ideal for:
- Working with chainsaws or hoses
- Emergency or First Responder operations
- Chemical Splashes
